Starting in 2009, The Nashville Retrospect newspaper provided a unique look at the city’s past by republishing old articles and photographs from city newspapers along with new essays by local historians, all in the form of a broadsheet-sized newspaper, just like old times. Though the newspaper stopped publishing in December 2020, the Retrospect lives on in a fee email newsletter, The Dispatch (sign up here), and all 138 back issues of the newspaper are still available in our online store. Scroll through Facebook and Instagram to see samples (click icons below). Listen to the Nashville Retrospect podcast to hear audio artifacts and interviews with historians and eyewitnesses to history. And watch videos about Nashville’s past in episodes of Nashville Retrospect Conversations. Also, you can explore downtown using the Nashville History Map.
The Nashville Retrospect is honored to have received the 2021 Commissioners’ Award from the Metropolitan Historical Commission. Allen Forkum accepted the award at the 45th Annual Preservation Awards (starting at 1:02:00).
